Animation
Originally the early animation tests were drawn and animated on 5 by 8 inch index cards and then later shot on 16mm film. Initially I had intended to shoot the entire project on film. It wasn't until aftewards that I decided to do the remainder of the film using Adobe's animation software After Effects.
After Effects by itself cannot create artwork. Because of this other applications were used to create the images that would later become the content to be used by Afte Effects. Both Illustrator and Photoshop were used extensively throughout most of the scenes in the film. Illutrator is a vector based drawing program which allows resolution independent images to be created and then imported into After Effects and manipulated without degrading the original image. Photoshop by contrast was used to create images that were resolution dependent, which means that they could not be enlarged without adversely affecting the original image.
Other image editing and painting programs that were used were Painter and a plug-in for Photoshop called Flaming Pear.
