Visual Design
The graphical look of the film was heavily influenced by the experimental cinema of the early european Dadaists who made animation from geometric forms and typography. I tried to keep a flat visual style throughout the film so as to accentuate the 2 dimensional style of the medium.
In addition to the Dadaists, I also researched the work of a variety of other visual artists, most of whom worked during the 20th century. Perhaps the most helpful in developing some of the films ideas was the work of the American graphic designer Paul Rand . Paul Rand is best known as the creator of logos for companies such as UPS and Westinghouse. He was probably more than any other American graphic designer responsible for introducing art techniques and concepts from the western Europe avante-garde into the everyday language of graphic design now practiced in the United States.
